Meet Karen Dandino: A Piano Instructor Who Believes in the Power of Music to Transform Lives

With over 30 years of experience, I’ve learned that teaching piano is about so much more than just learning to play the right notes. It’s about understanding each student’s unique journey and helping them find their own way to express themselves through music. I’ve spent decades honing my diagnostic skills to identify what each student truly needs, and I’ve developed a natural, holistic approach to technique that helps pianists of all ages play with ease and confidence.
I’m incredibly proud of my students and the work we do together. They’ve gone on to win numerous awards—not just because they play well, but because they learn to play from the heart. My teaching is grounded in both experience and a commitment to lifelong learning. I’m certified by the Colorado State Music Teachers Association and completed a course in Piano Pedagogy from Trinity College, which deepened my understanding of how to teach effectively. Recently, I’ve been fortunate to study with renowned coaches like Dr. Susan Cable and Dr. Yelena Balabanova, who have helped me continue to grow and evolve as a teacher and musician.
Outside of teaching, I keep my own musicianship alive through solo and collaborative performances. I’m especially passionate about Russian Late-Romantic literature, which holds a special place in my repertoire. For me, performing is a way to stay connected to the music, to my students, and to the reasons I fell in love with the piano in the first place.
In my studio, whether in person or online every lesson is an opportunity to learn, grow, and connect—not just with the music, but with ourselves. I believe in creating a dynamic, supportive environment where every student feels seen, heard, and inspired to become the pianist—and the person—they’re meant to be.
